Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, on the 18th of April, apologised for her remarks against Hemant Karkare, the former Chief of the Anti Terror Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra.

Mr. Karkare with Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar, two senior police officials died during the 26/11 Mumbai Terror attack in 2008.

Hemant Karkare was the ATS Chief and the investigative officer of the 2008 Malegaon blast case, for which Pragya Singh Thakur was criticised for helping the terrorists during the attack.

On the 18th of April, Ms. Thakur addressed a press conference organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the Lok Sabha elections.

During the press conference, Ms. Thakur spoke about Hemant Karkare and said, the death of the late Karkare happened due to her curse. She said, “I told him tera sarvanaash hoga (You will be destroyed,’) and just over a month later, terrorists killed him.”

Sadhvi Pragya said, Karkare was investigating the case and wanted to prove her guilty but did not have the evidence. She said, he also asked her whether he should ask God to provide evidence against her for being involved in the Malegaon blast, she replied, “If he feels like it, he should do so.”

Ms. Pragya apologised for her comments after being criticised for her negative comments against the late Hemant Karkare who lost his life while fighting against terrorists.

Pragya apologised for her derogatory comments and said she is taking back her words. She later clarified that it was her personal views and have no connection with the BJP for the remarks.

Ms. Thakur said, “If my remarks made enemies happy, then I take my words back, and I apologise too. Our remarks shouldn’t make enemies happy. The pain I went through, it can’t be reversed, but terrorists killed Hemant Karkare, he certainly is a martyr.”

The decision of the BJP to welcome Pragya, an accused of the Malegaon blast case did not go well with the opposition parties and attracted negative comments for the decision.

However, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP dismissed the allegations and nominated Ms. Thakur as the Member of Parliament (MP) from the Bhopal constituency, Madhya Pradesh.

Sadhvi Priyanka Singh Thakhur will contest against Digvijaya Singh, the MP candidate of the Indian National Congress (INC) in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

Madhya Pradesh will contest a total of 29 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. The Madhya Pradesh Lok Sabha elections are divided into four phases, scheduled on the 29th of April, 6th of May, 12th of May and 19th of May.
The results of the Madhya Pradesh Lok Sabha elections will be declared on the 23rd of May.
