Om Prakash Rajbhar, the President of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP,) on the 16th of April, announced his decision of  the Party contesting the Lok Sabha elections alone in Uttar Pradesh.

The SBSP is an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Om Prakash Rajbhar was disappointed with the BJP for not discussing the seat sharing formula for the Lok Sabha elections, following which, he took the aforementioned decision.

Mr. Rajbhar addressed the media and said, “The BJP gave Apna Dal two seats and none to us. We have an influence on 125 Assembly seats in eastern Uttar Pradesh and we are going to contest on our own.”

Rajbhar also said, the BJP offered a seat to the SBSP under the lotus sign, which is the symbol of the BJP.

Om Prakash Rajbhar refused the seat and said, he will contest the Lok Sabha elections alone from 39 Parliamentary seats in Uttar Pradesh.

Mr. Rajbhar will contest against the grand alliance of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP,) the Indian National Congress (INC) and the BJP.

Uttar Pradesh will contest a total of 80 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, divided into 7 phases. Out of the 80 seats, the State contested a total of 10 seats on the 11th of April, in the first phase of the elections. The polling for the remaining 70 seats will be conducted in 6 phases, scheduled on the 18th of April, 23rd of April, 29th of April, 6th of May, 12th of May and the 19th of May 2019.
