Sunny Deol, a Member of Parliament (MP) candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) started his campaign in Gurdaspur, Punjab for the Lok Sabha elections.
Sunny Deol, an actor turned politician, recently joined the BJP and filed his nomination from the Gurdaspur constituency in Punjab.
Mr. Deol started his campaign for the Lok Sabha elections by offering blessings at Gurudwara in Gurdaspur.
On the 29th of April, Deol filed his nomination to the Returning Officer (RO) of the Gurdaspur constituency, following which he addressed a roadshow.
Mr. Deol, who is new to politics said, “ Look, I do not know much about politics but I am a patriot. I have come here to connect with you because I want our Punjab and our country to scale new heights.”
After the demise of Vinod Khanna, who was the MP of Gurdaspur till 2018, Kavitha khanna, the wife of late Vinod Khanna, expected to get a BJP ticket from the constituency. However, the BJP disappointed Kavitha and selected Sunny Deol as the MP candidate of the BJP from Gurdaspur.
Sunny Deol will contest against Sunil Jakhar, the current MP representing the Indian National Congress (INC,) Peter Masih of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Lal Chand of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) in Gurdaspur.
Gurdaspur will contest in the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled on the 19th of May 2019.
The Lok Sabha elections started from the 11th of April and will continue till the 19th of May.
The Lok Sabha elections are divided into 7 phases, scheduled on the 11th of April, 18th of April, 23rd of April, 29th of April, 6th of May, 12th of May and 19th of May.
The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the INC and the BJP.
