Thushar Vellappally, a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate, on the 23rd of April, demanded a re election in Booth Number 79 of the Wayanad constituency, Kerala.

Mr. Vellappally wrote a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI,) which was sent through Chief Election Agent Advocate Sunil Kumar G. The letter read, “Let me draw your kind attention to an important matter. It is reported from booth number 79 – CMS Higher Secondary School, Arappatta in Mooppanad Panchayath that the voting machine is damaged. A vote is not being cast even after pressing twice.”

Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) is contesting from the Wayanad constituency, making it a highlight of this year’s Lok Sabha elections.

It is the first time Rahul Gandhi is contesting from two Parliamentary seats, one from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and one from Wayanad in Kerala.

Mr. Gandhi is contesting against the Communist Party of India (CPI) in the Wayanad constituency.

Kerala contested a total of 20 seats in the 3rd phase of the Lok Sabha elections, on the 23rd of April.

The major parties contesting the Kerala Lok Sabha elections are the INC, the NDA and the Left Democratic Front (LDF.)

The results of the Kerala Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
