Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, said, he will support Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC) if he promises to provide full statehood to Delhi.

On the 8th of May, during an interview, Mr. Kejriwal said, “Whichever party forms the next government, excluding the BJP, will have AAP’s support only if it supports AAP on the issue of full statehood for Delhi.”

With the statement of Mr. Kejriwal, it is clear that he is ready to support Rahul Gandhi. When asked specifically about Rahul Gandhi, Kejriwal said, “If he is considered as a prime ministerial candidate, then I will support him only on the condition that he supports full statehood for Delhi.”

Since a few months, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the INC are having issues due to the alliance proposal.

The AAP approached the INC to form an alliance against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.) However, the INC declined forming an alliance, following which the AAP is contesting the Lok Sabha elections alone in Delhi.

Delhi will contest a total of 7 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled on the 12th of May 2019.

The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the INC, the AAP and the BJP.

The results of the Delhi Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
