On the 20th of May, a major fire broke out in one of the counting centres in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

Fire brigade rushed to the spot and tried to put out the fire and controlled the situation.

The incident took place during the late hours of Monday night (the 20th of May) at an engineering college. The college was one of the counting centres for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

The Election Commission officials made all the arrangements such as tables and chairs for the 23rd of May, the vote counting day.

According to the police and fire brigades, a short circuit could be the reason behind the massive fire. However, the reason is not yet confirmed.

When the Election Commission (EC) officials received the news, they panicked as the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were kept in a nearby building.

However, even after such massive fire, the police informed, the EVMs were safe and no casualties have been reported in the accident.

The counting of the votes will take place on the 23rd of May, following which it will be announced, who won the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in AP.

Andhra Pradesh conducted it’s Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, on the 11th of April 2019.

The major parties contesting the elections are the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) and the JanaSena Party.
