A major fire has broken out in Kumardubi village at a firecracker factory in Jharkhand. At present, eight people have been confirmed to have died and 25 others have been injured. A news channel has reported that five fire tenders are at the spot dousing the flames.

The firework factory was an illegal one and managed to catch fire. The fire collapsed one of the walls of the house and people are feared to be trapped underneath it.

Sub Divisional Officer, Arvind Kumar Lal reported, “A large quantity of firecrackers were stored as well as being manufactured illegally. Somehow, the stored firecrackers caught fire.”

Local BJP MP Bidyut Baran Mahato made his way to the spot and reported, “I have already apprised Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das about the incident and urged the local administration to make adequate arrangements to provide the best medical aid to the injured in Jamshedpur.”

The MP further added that the Chief Minister assured him that the next of kin of the deceased will receive Rs. 2 lakhs as ex gratia while the injured will receive Rs. 50,000.
