On the 19th of April, Democrat Jerry Nadler, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, issued a subpoena to the Justice Department and directed them to hand over the unredacted version of the report written by Robert Mueller. The House of Representatives, is the lower house of the U.S., legislative body, the U.S., Congress — the Senate being the upper body. The House Democrats also asked for all the underlying evidence derived against the United States President Donald Trump, to be handed over by the 1st of May this year.

This subpoena demanded the release of a full report of everything that went into the Russian  interference which happened during the year 2016 elections. Furthermore, the subpoena also said the Congress was left in the dark about what happened.

Chairman Nadler’s committee has the full power to launch impeachment proceedings against the current sitting President and had taken a vote in April to authorize the subpoena for the report. This subpoena was asked for after attorney general WIlliam Barr  outlined certain categories he wanted to shield from the eyes of the Congress.

The 448 page subpoena was a result of a 22 month long investigation conducted by Robert Mueller. Appointed to investigate the alleged Russian interference during the 2016 elections and a possible collusion between the  Trump political campaign, Mueller submitted his report after conducting a thorough and detailed investigation against President Trump.

The records were issued after Mueller’s team interviewed more than 500 people, issued more than 2,800 subpoenas and got court records for more than 100s of electronic communications.

Reacting to the subpoena, Barr said he had to redact certain parts of the report because it was required by law. He has said he is ready to meet with certain members of the Congress to review a less redacted version of the report. Looking at the various parts of the report, several Congress members have asked for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.
