On Tuesday, the Madras High Court canceled its stay on the construction of the Nadigar Sangam Association’s building at T. Nagar. The court had earlier instructed the office bearers to maintain status quo on the construction.

In May 2016, the locals of T. Nagar had filed a writ petition claiming that the South Indian Artist Association had intruded on a 33 foot public road connecting Habibullah Road and Prakasam Street.

The issue came up for hearing before a Division Bench consisting Judges, V. Parthiban and N. Kirubakaran. The judges scrutinized the report submitted by the Advocate General. The justices also went through the reports which were submitted by the Nadigar Sangam and said that no Prima facie case was made out.

The court said that in spite of being given many opportunities, the locals have failed to prove that public areas had been encroached upon.

“Please don’t waste your time by looking for corruption. We also have a system which is similar to ‘Bigg Boss.’ We do work transparently and anyone can come and question us on the decisions we take. From tomorrow, we will start the tender process. The building will be ready by August next year,” Nadigar Sangam Secretary, Vishal said.

He added that the verdict had shown that there would not be any problem as long as people follow the laws. “The court has said today that there is no prima facie case. We were waiting for this verdict. Our hands are clean and we have followed every legal procedure,” he explained.
