In a disturbing case, police reported a man cut off his daughter’s ear because he claims a ghost asked him to do it or else the ghost would take his daughter away.

The accused has been identified as Amrit Bahadur, a 35 year old man. The police arrested the man immediately after the incident was reported.

The man’s family informed the police Amrit had become mentally disturbed after he lost his one and a half year old daughter a few months ago.

Ever since the death of his daughter, Amrit had hallucinations of a ghost that kept threatening to take even his second daughter away.

The incident happened on Thursday at Amrit’s residential house in GTB Enclave in New Delhi.

Nupur Prasad, DCP of Shahdra said, “Bahadur works in an unorganized sector as a cleaner. He came to his house around 1:30 A.M., and he was drunk. He was having hallucinations. He felt that something is there that’s compelling him to do this act and if he does not do that then he may lose his daughter. Therefore, he said that he chopped off the girl’s ear. In the meantime, the family woke up and called the neighbors who informed the police and the girl was rescued.”

The girl was immediately admitted to AIIMS hospital and is undergoing treatment.

Seven years ago, Bahadur’s older brother had passed away. After which he married his sister in law who had four children.
