From now on, customers can pay later for the tickets that are booked under the Tatkal quota on a website called Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp (IRCTC.) The implementation of this service was announced on Wednesday.
Earlier, this scheme was applicable only for the general reservations. People had to pay first for Tatkal bookings and the payment would be made through the standard online payment gateways before the IRCTC portal confirmed their ticket.
IRCTC payment provider, Anduril Technologies said IRCTC users will be able to make payment via cash or debit or credit card by opting to have Tatkal tickets delivered to their doorstep.
Every day, IRCTC processes 130,000 Tatkal transactions while the majority of the tickets will be booked within minutes of the quota opening.
The new feature terminates the failure of the transaction because most of the times money gets debited but the tickets are not issued due to certain reasons. The refund cycle is about 7 to 15 days.
Anurag Bajpai, CEO at Anduril Technologies said, “Pay on delivery for Tatkal tickets is going to be a huge benefit to for millions of train travelers who need to book under the tatkal quota. The option to book first, pay later will find significant adoption among users. This move by IRCTC also aims to encourage people that buy tickets off the Railway Reservation Counters to move to online medium.”
According to a source, to avail pay on delivery option , the customers have to first register with irctc.payondelivery.co.in. They will have to make use of either Adhaar or PAN details at the time of registration. The user has to choose the ‘pay on delivery’ option while booking the ticket on IRCTC portal. Instantly, the digital delivery will take place via text message or email.
