The Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) Leader Nitish Kumar requested Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to support his party candidate. The Bihar CM personally asked KCR to support his candidate for the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman contest.
On Tuesday morning, Mr. Kumar telephoned KCR to discuss his support in electing a new Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman. KCR told the Bihar CM that he would hold a meeting with his party leaders. The TRS Chief stated the party would make a decision and inform the JD(U) party.
The candidate from the JD(U) is Member of Parliament Harivansh Narayan Singh. The elections for the new Deputy Chairman will be held on the 9th of August. In the Rajya Sabha, the BJP led NDA Government does not have a majority.
The support of regional parties like AIADMK, YSR Congress, TRS and BJD are crucial for this poll. This position has been empty since June this year after the retirement of Congress member P. J. Kurien. Mr. Kurien was elected as the Deputy Chairman of the Upper House from Kerala.
