The leading Digital Wallet Company Paytm, is planning to start its own messaging service just like WhatsApp.

The messaging service of Paytm will allow users to send video, audio files, pictures and texts, said a source. However, Paytm is yet to confirm this news officially.

As per the report, the official launch is expected to happen in two weeks. WhatsApp’s Global Business Head, Neeraj Arora, is a member of Paytm’s board of directors.

In India, WhatsApp has 200 million active users and one billion users across the world and Paytm has around 225 million users in India. Recently, Paytm has raised $1.4 billion in funds through the Japanese, SoftBank Group.

Last month, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) authorized SoftBank’s 20 per cent stake acquisition.

“CCI India approves the acquisition of 20 percent stake in One97 Communications Limited by SoftBank Group Corp,” the government agency said.

In August 2010, Paytm was launched as a platform for online recharge and bill payments which soon expanded into offline use also. Paytm Wallet was launched in January 2014.

Paytm has launched its banking operations under the Paytm Payments Bank in the month of May which will be fully operational by the mid of August.

In addition to this, WhatsApp is looking to move into digital payment services in India.
