As the Prime Minister of India inducted the INS Kalvari, he said the submarine was dedicated to the Nation. Modi further said it would play an important role in combating terrorism via sea.
PM Modi said while addressing the India Navy in Mumbai, “As India’s Maritime partnership is increasing, the framework is being improved, which is making the goal more visible. Our country is playing an important role in combating issues like terrorism via sea, piracy, smuggling or illegal fishing, which not only pertains to India but other countries in this region as well.”
The Prime Minister also said he felt an enormous amount of pride as today will be marked in the Indian history. He was quoted saying, “After about two decades, India is being presented by a submarine like this. The attachment of INS Kalvari is a huge step for us, especially in culminating the defense safety of the Indian Navy. Indians have worked very hard in creating the submarine.”
Modi also appreciated the Indian Ocean for allowing India to make that mark. He said, “Hind Mahasagar (India Ocean) has helped India engrave its history. And now at the present moment, it is giving India more strength. Hind Mahasagar has important place in this Government, in our schemes and policy making.”
The INS Kalvari is the first of six Scorpene class submarines to be inducted into the Indian Navy. This diesel electric attack submarine was built by the Mumbai based shipbuilders Mazagon Dock Limited.
