PM Modi To Visit Odisha

Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi will visit Odisha, on the 6th of May, to assess the dire situation in Odisha due to Cyclone Fani and find a solution regarding the same.

Mr. Modi took to Twitter and announced his visit to Odisha.

Mr. Modi discussed the situation with Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha and spoke about the possible measures to be taken to revert the damage caused due to Cyclone Fani.

Approximately 12 districts of Odisha were severely affected by Fani, which hit the State with an intense speed of 150 to 120 kilometres per hour (kmph.)

Though the Odisha Government officials reported 3 deaths, the media sources claimed 12 lives were lost due to Fani.

The Narendra Modi led Government of India (GoI) extended its support to the State and assured relief materials and camps for the people.

Mr. Modi said, “Entire nation stands in solidarity with all those affected by the cyclone in different parts (sic.)”

On the 3rd of May, Cyclone Fani hit Odisha, following which, 12 lakh people were evacuated.

Naveen Patnaik held a review meeting on the 3rd of May and said, “Just now, I reviewed the cyclone situation with the chief secretary and other senior officers. Our first priority is to evacuate people living in vulnerable areas, including kutcha houses. In the last 24 hours, 12 lakh people have been evacuated to safer locations and they are being taken care of in shelters. As we speak, Fani is still passing through Odisha, and an assessment of damage will be possible only after it crosses the state.”

On the 4th of May, Fani hit a few regions of Jharkhand. According to the regional meteorological department, Fani may bring heavy storm and rain in approximately 24 districts of Jharkhand.

The Jharkhand Government directed the deputy commissioners of all the districts to be on high alert and take precautionary measures.

Fani is one of the worst cyclones to hit Odisha in the last four decades.
