Police officer stoned to death, sacrificing life in the line of duty.

“Another police officer sacrificed his life in the line of duty. Deputy SP Mohammed Ayub Pandith, of Security attacked and beaten to death by a mob at Nowhatta last night,” a police officer said.

On Friday morning, a police officer was stoned to death by an irate mob in Srinagar that claimed he had shot at a group of people who caught him taking photographs outside Jamia Masjid.
The victim, Mohammed Ayub Pandit is a Deputy Superintendent and he was on duty when the mob attacked him.
The police sources said the victim was seen taking pictures of people coming out of Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area around 3 A.M., on Friday. They said when people tried to catch Mohammed and stop him from taking photos, he allegedly fired many shots from his pistol, injuring three people.
Later, a group of people began to beat the police officer. That group quickly swelled into an irate mob that stripped the officer before killing him by hitting him with stones.
“When he came out after checking access control in the area, he was surrounded by some miscreants who started manhandling him and asking for his identification. Initial investigation revealed that there was an altercation and the officer fired to get away from the mob. He was, however, overpowered and killed near Bata Chowk in Nowhatta area,” explained the officer.
