Rahul Gandhi Quits As INC President?

Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 25th of May, submitted his resignation.

Mr. Gandhi announced his decision during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, held on the 25th of May.

However, the resignation of Mr. Gandhi was not accepted by the CWC, who want Rahul to stay as the Party Chief.

After the defeat of the INC in the Lok Sabha elections against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) Mr. Gandhi said, he is responsible for the loss of the INC, as the Party secured only 52 seats out of 542 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

As per the Election Commission of India (ECI,) the INC secured 52 seats, whereas the BJP won a total of 300 seats in the 17th Lok Sabha elections.

When asked about the reason behind the defeat of the INC, Mr. Gandhi said, “I accept 100 per cent responsibility.”

The CWC meeting was conducted on the 25th of May, to discuss the dismissal of the INC and draw the action plan for the Party in the coming days.

The CWC meeting is still underway.

Stay tuned for further updates.
