Shikhar Dhawan, a cricket player of the Indian Cricket Team, was ruled out of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2019, after he sustained a severe thumb injury.

On the 19th of June, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) took to Twitter and officially announced, Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the ongoing ICC World Cup due to his left thumb being fractured.


On the 9th of June, during the One Day International (ODI) match against Australia, Dhawan got injured.

Sunil Subramaniam, the Manager of the Indian Cricket Team said, “(Shikhar) Dhawan has a fracture base of the metacarpal of left thumb and he will remain in cast till mid July. He has been ruled out of the ICC World Cup 2019 and we have requested Rishabh Pant as his replacement.”

Rishabh Pant, another player of Indian Cricket Team, will replace Dhawan in the upcoming ODI matches of the ICC series.

Rishabh Pant was the first Indian wicketkeeper to hit a century in his debut Test match against Australia in January 2019.

Rishabh Pant, in the Test match, hit a century at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and became the second youngest Indian wicketkeeper to hit a century in Australia.

The Indian Cricket Team is hoping for Shikhar Dhawan to have a speedy recovery.

The loss of Shikhar Dhawan in the ICC World Cup could be a major drawback for Team India.

Hosted by England, the ICC World Cup started from the 30th of May and will continue till the 14th of July.
