A hijacked beer truck crashed into a busy market of Ahlens Department Store and Drottninggatan, in Stockholm, Sweden around 13:00 hours GMT. The incident killed four people and injured 15 others.
The crash is told to be terrorist related and the suspect in the case has been arrested. The suspected criminal is a 39-year old Uzbekistan man who was acting suspiciously before he was detained at Marsta and matched the appearance of the suspect who was caught on camera.
“We have investigated several people this evening, who we found interesting in one way or another, and recently we arrested someone we are very interested in,” said police investigator Jan Evensson, referring to the Marsta arrest.
The prime minister, Stefan Löfven, said he had strengthened the country’s border controls. “Terrorists want us to be afraid, want us to change our behaviour, want us to not live our lives normally, but that is what we’re going to do. So terrorists can never defeat Sweden, never,” he said. “We are thinking of the dead and the injured and their families. I am urging the public to be vigilant and keep updating the police,” Lofven said.
Leaders and politicians from all over the world sent their condolences to the situation in Stockholm, condemning the terrorist attack and praying for the families of the victims.
