Swami Agnivesh, a social activist was attacked allegedly by BJP workers in Jharkhand today. The alleged BJP Yuva Morcha workers held up black flags and raised slogans against the Swami before attacking him.
The Chief Minister of Jharkhand Raghubar Das ordered the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the attack. Swami Agnivesh was kicked and punched to the ground by the group of BJP workers.
Swami Agnivesh was attending an event in Pakur around 370 Kms from Ranchi. The alleged BJP workers chanted “Jai Sri Ram” as they beat up the 80 year old activist.
Swami was quoted saying, “I am against any sort of violence. I am known as a peace loving person. I don’t know why I was attacked.” He further stated there were no policemen even though protesters had gathered around his hotel.
He further added, “I had offered to hold a dialogue with them. But nobody came to speak to me. I was going to a sammelan (seminar) with my tribal friends when they launched an attack. They were carrying black flags and without any warning pounced on me. They punched, kicked and dragged me on the ground. They also used cuss words.”
Swami sadly said, “I pleaded with them with folded hands… But they didn’t think it was necessary to tell me why they were raining blows on me. They just went on and on.”
He was rushed to a local hospital where doctors ran multiple tests. Swami was hit with a stone in his ribs which has put him in immense pain. The police claim this was a premeditated attack and detained 20 men.
