Swine Flu has resulted in 632 people losing their lives out of 13,188 cases in just the first half of 2017. Last year, a total of 265 people lost their lives out of 1,786 infections.

The H1N1 virus has affected 3,000 people in Tamil Nadu since January 2017.

Maharashtra has reported 2,738 cases among them 300 passed away. Gujarat has recorded 289 cases of infection among which 75 have lost their lives.

As the epidemic spreads becoming aware of the infection is very important.

Swine Flu is known as H1N1 virus that is a viral illness.

The symptoms of the illness are fever, cough, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, headaches and sudden chills.

The disease began spreading from pigs but can be infected from person to person.

It is a air borne virus, humans can be affected through contact of the saliva or mucus particles from the infecting person.

Swine Flu will affect anyone but children not older than 5 years can be more vulnerable to the virus. Pregnant women, people older than 65, young adults undergoing long term aspirin therapy and anyone suffering from heart and lung diseases and other diseases that weaken the immune system.

The best way to avoid catching swine flu would be to get a yearly flu vaccination. Apart from the vaccination one can ensure to wash hands frequently and during flu season avoid large crowds.
