Tamil Nadu: Boy Commits Suicide With Note To PM Modi

A teenage boy was found hanging from a flyover in Tamil Nadu with a suicide note addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This incident occurred in the city of Tirunelveli near Vannarapettai area.

The police said the note said he was committing suicide because of his alcoholic father. He further requested PM Modi and Chief Minister E. Palaniswami to ban the sale of liquor in the State.

In the note, the 17 year old has given clear instructions that his father should not be allowed to do his last rites. The boy even mentions the family member he would prefer to perform the rites.

A ban on alcohol was discussed during the tenure of AIADMK with Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Many political parties supported the prohibition of liquor but was not pursued.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu was the first State to ban liquor throughout the State. However, in 1971 when DMK Government led my M. Karunanidhi came to power the ban was lifted.

The Tamil Nadu Government profits heavily from the alcohol business. The Government makes 27,000 crores on liquor annually from Government owned outlets.
