Kamal Hasan, an actor turned politician declared, on Saturday, his party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) will contest the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu.
Kamal Hasan formed MNM and officially launched the party in the month of February, 2018.
Addressing the media, Mr. Hasan said, “I will definitely contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.” He further said, a committee will soon start choosing candidates for the same.
There are speculations that MNM will form alliance only with like minded parties who are also focusing on the development of the State. However, the confirmation for the same is yet to be announced.
When asked about any alliances for the elections in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Hasan said, “Such things cannot be said now and it cannot be disclosed to the media. Some sections of media are imagining things.”
After the disqualification of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK,) 18 seats fell vacant. Later, due to the demise of of two legislators, M. Karunanidhi and A.K. Bose, two more seats became vacant. The MNM will contest for all the 20 Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The official dates for the Tamil Nadu elections are yet to be announced.
