The Central Government and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) the ruling Government of Telangana, are fighting over funds for the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) scheme in Hyderabad.
The TRS expressed its disappointment regarding the funds not being released for the ITIR scheme in Hyderabad, which will pave the way for investments and the growth of the IT sector.
The ITIR scheme, worth Rs. 3,275 crores, is an ambitious project started by the Telangana Government to grow the IT sector and generate investments in the IT field. However, the project was halted in 2013 due to fund issues.
In 2018, KTR met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to request for funding, so the Telangana Government can restart the work on the ITIR scheme.
On the 5th of July, Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister of India, released the Budget of India for 2019-2020. The TRS complained, the Government of India (GoI) ignored the ITIR scheme and did not allocate funds for the same, even after several requests.
K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana and K.T. Rama Rao, the Working President of the TRS, claimed, the action of the GoI is unjust to Telangana.
Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Information and Technology (IT) Minister of India, denied the claims of KCR and KTR. Mr. Prasad said, “Telangana Government was asked to submit the required information to the ministries with intimation to the ministry of Information Technology. Response from the Government of Telangana has not been received till date.”
However, KTR and a senior IAS officer denied the allegations of the Central Government. KTR and the IAS officer said, they submitted all the necessary documents asked and said, “The Union IT Minister himself announced in Hyderabad last time when he was here that ITIR Scheme has been shelved.”
The ITIR project is said to be the dream project of the Telangana Government in the field of IT.
