K. Vishweshwar Reddy quit the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) on Tuesday, ahead of the Telangana Assembly elections.

Mr. Reddy is a part of the influential Reddy community. His resignation is said to be a major setback for the TRS as it could cost the party quite a number of votes.

Mr. Reddy handed his resignation letter to K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) the Chief Minister of Telangana. In the letter, he wrote, “I am powerless within the party and because of the tenets of good behaviour for a party member, I could not speak out or take action. Furthermore mu multiple attempts to resolve the issues or at least come to terms with them failed. Since I am unable to acquiescence with the current scenario, I feel the best possible path for me is to resign from the party.”

Mr. Reddy, in his 3 page letter, spoke about the lack of importance given to him and the presence of ideological differences between him and the new party members. In this light, he said, “I fought for the party in 2014 when the party needed me. However, the party has inducted people who were against Telangana and our ideology into the cabinet and given them more power and prominence. I feel people who were fighting for Telangana and share a common ideology, including me, are no longer needed in the party.”

According to sources, there is a possibility of K. Vishweshwar Reddy joining the Congress when Sonia Gandhi visits Medchal on the 23rd of November.

The ‘grand alliance’ of the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) will contest 119 Assembly seats against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the TRS in the Telangana Assembly elections

The Telangana Assembly elections are scheduled on the 7th of December and the results will be announced on the 11th of December.
