The Hyderabad Police, on the 13th of June, caught two people smoking near Charminar and fined them Rs. 200 each.
Although the Hyderabad Police declared the area around Charminar as a No Smoking Zone, people continue to smoke near the monument.
The police fined the two smokers as per the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COPA,) which restricts the public from smoking in public places and no smoking zones.
S. Guru Swamy, the Sub Inspector of Charminar Police Station, said, “Despite putting up boards warning the public not to smoke at the public places, people continued to smoke ignoring the warning by the police.”
The Charminar Police deployed special drivers who will visit and supervise the area to prevent such cases.
