On Wednesday, a Senior Army Officer revealed two new projects to equip the Army with futuristic combat vehicles.

Lt. Gen. A. B. Shivane addressed a seminar organized by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies on armored vehicles. He was quoted saying, “The Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV) and Future Ready Combat Vehicle (FRCV) programmes are going to be the biggest game changers for the Indian Defense Industry Ecosystem… Sometimes big ticket items take little more time but they do not fall. I am confident that very shortly you will hear the FICV going into the next level.”

The plan is to make an indigenous design for the FICV with the help of foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers. The Army’s requirement is a total of 2,600 vehicles. The FRCV will replace the Russian T-72 tanks which the Army uses at present.

Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat also spoke at the seminar and said the Army was going through an important phase in equipment management.
