UN Report: Al-Qaeda Is Ideologically Inclined To Attack India

The recent United Nations 22nd report states the Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) is ideologically inclined to attack India. The report further highlights the capability of the group attacking the country is relatively low.

AQIS is a new terrorist group that is relatively isolated according to the UN report. This is because of the increased security within the region. The terror group however continues to find an opportunity to attack.

The AQIS in Afghanistan has been growing with several hundred people in Paktika, Ghazni, Kandahar, Kabul and Laghman. The report explained how these terror groups adapt to the local environment. Each one embeds themselves into the communities struggles while allied with the Taliban.

According to a Member State from the UN, ISIS poses an immediate threat however, the Al-Qaeda is the intellectually stronger group. However, ISIS is growing in Afghanistan as they lost territory in Iraq and Syria. At present there are around 20,000 to 30,000 Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq.

The ISIS growing in Afghanistan is estimated at around 5,000 fighters. The UN report briefly mentions an attack in Kashmir which was carried out by the ISIS in Afghanistan. However, no more detailed were given about the Kashmir attack.
