Unnao Rape Case: UP Government Withdraws BJP MLA’s Security Cover

The Uttar Pradesh Government withdrew the Y category security cover of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. This comes after accusations from the public that the BJP Government is shielding the rape accused MLA. Mr. Sengar is accused of raping a 16 year old girl more than a year ago.

The Bangarmau MLA in Unnao district had a Y category security that offered 11 personnel with one or two commandos and police personnel. The MLA was arrested by the CBI in connection with the Unnao rape case. Sengar is presently in the custody of the law agency.

The CBI has registered a total of three cases against the BJP MLA related to the rape. The Uttar Pradesh Police conducted the initial investigation and booked Sengar under IPC Section 363 (Kidnapping,) 366 (Abduction of Woman,) 376 (Rape) and 506 (Criminal Intimidation.)

The BJP MLA was also charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case was later transferred to the CBI after the Police failed to take action against the accused.

This case became public after the teenager attempted to kill herself outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s house on Sunday. The girl accused the State Government of protecting the accused lawmaker. The case got serious when the girl’s father was killed in custody after being beaten up by the lawmaker’s brother. The BJP lawmaker’s brother has been arrested but the main accused is still free.
