Yeddyurappa Resigns Before The Floor Test

Two day old Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa resigned just before the floor test at the Assembly. The BJP Minister said he decided to resign as he failed to establish his majority.

Giving a speech at Vidhana Soudha BSY said, “Since 2016, I have been the chief of party in state. And both PM Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah have said I will be CM. As you know, constantly for the last year, I have travelled through the state and understood problems in each and every constituency.”

He further added, “The state has given me a lot of love and affection and support for this fight and gave us 104 seats in Vidhana Soudha.”

BSY thanked the people for giving their support to the BJP and accused the Congress and JD(S) of acting against democracy. Tears filled in his eyes BSY said, “In a democracy, the important thing is not who got how many seats. What is important is what the people want.”

Attacking the Congress the Yeddyurappa said, “I request all the legislators to vote on their conscience. But then you have scared the MLAs. You have not even allowed them to speak to their family members over the phone. You did not even trust your MLAs this much.”

Today, the B. S. Yeddyurappa Government was supposed to prove their majority support in the Assembly. The Supreme Court ordered a floor test today for the BJP to prove their majority in the Karnataka Assembly.

A floor test is for the party called on by the Governor to form the Government even without majority seats. The test would involve the party proving its majority on the floor of the Assembly of the State.

The voting for the 222 seats was held last week and one of the Constituency’s polling was canceled after the BJP candidate suddenly passed away. The BJP party secured 104 seats and one independent seat support while the majority required to form a government in 112 seats.

The Congress secured 77 seats and the JD(S) won 39 seats and decided to form an alliance to form a coalition Government. However, the decision left for the Karnataka Governor from BJP decided to give his party the opportunity to prove their majority.
