The pandemic Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 with lethal transmission have become a major concern for every individual in the world.

The COVID-19 infection infected 15 million people worldwide and claimed 5 million lives.

In India only, cases crossed 1.2 million with a recovery rate of 63% and fatality rate of 2.4 %.

Though the mortality rate of the disease is 6% worldwide, the transmission of the disease  is the major cause in the increasing cases.

Considering the seriousness of COVID-19, it is about time we step up against this deadly disease.

Since the virus does not have any proven cure, simple regular hygiene ways, handwash, social distancing and other such steps are the only possible way to prevent the spread.

Isolation, social distancing, wearing face masks, extra care of senior citizens and children, no smoking, no drinking are a few simple things, helping to reduce the chances of being infected.

Simple ways to prevent the spread

  • Social distancing
  • No smoking
  • No drinking
  • Wearing face mask
  • Use of sanitizer
  • Wash hands every 30 minutes
  • Isolation
  • Self awareness
  • Practice Respiratory hygiene
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth in public or outdoors.
  • Stay informed
  • Stay indoors if not important

Why one needs to follow the above mentioned steps?

Social distancing: COVID-19 spreads mainly by respiratory droplets that come out of the mouth or nose when a person who has the disease coughs.  By avoiding crowded places and maintaining social distancing you keep yourself distant (at least 2 metre) from people who may be infected with COVID-19 or any other respiratory disease.

Wearing face mask: Wearing face masks could reduce 80 % to 90 % chance of being infected or infecting others.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth: Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth and can then enter your body and make you sick.

No drinking and smoking: drink and smoke could affect your immune system, being a hurdle during treatment if infected of the Novel Coronavirus.  Immune system of your body plays a very important role in the cure of the Novel Coronavirus.

Self awareness: If you know all the pros and cons of the disease and stay informed about the deadly virus, it helps to spread the word to others.  In addition this may also cut the spreaded WhatsApp rumours regarding the Coronavirus. Local and national authorities will have the most up-to-date information on whether COVID-19 is spreading in your area. They are best placed to advise on what people in your area should be doing to protect themselves.

Wash hands frequently: Washing hands frequently with soap would help you to get rid of all the viruses you may have contacted directly or indirectly.
