Approximately 86% of the total active cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 are being reported from only 10 States of India.

The list of the states and union territories begins with Maharashtra with a total of 1,05,638.  Approximately 50% of the people infected are from Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. 

Of the total 86 % , 36% are from other 8 states of India. 

Other regions of India with the highest number of active cases are: Karnataka, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, Gujarat and Assam. 

During a media briefing, the Health Ministry of India said nearly 20 states are performing better and showed recovery rates higher than the active cases. 

Rajesh Bhushan, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of the Union Health Ministry, said, “There are 20 states that have a recovery rate which is more than the national average. India’s national average is 63%.”

The Union Government also asked people to follow the social vaccine, which is physical distancing, wearing face masks and hand washing every few hours.

✅Preventive actions: hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene & environmental sanitation.”

Meanwhile, Balram Bhagava, the Director General of the Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR,) said, “There are 2 Indian indigenous candidate vaccines. They have undergone successful toxicity studies in rats, mice and rabbits.  Data was submitted to DCGI following which both the vaccines got clearance to start early phase human trials early this month.”

During the press conference, the Union Health Ministry representative confirmed as many as 1,20,92,503 samples being tested for the Novel Cronavirus tested so far in India. 

The total number of active cases in India stand at 9,11,629 are positive cases, 3,13,504 are active cases, 5,73,953 cases are recovered/discharged and 23,788 deceased.
