The Health Ministry of India, confirmed 54,735 positive cases after testing nearly 5 lakh samples.

According to released data on the official site of the Ministry of Home and Family Welfare (MHoFW) there are 17,50,723 positive cases, of which 5,67,730 are active cases, 11,45,629 recovered cases and 37,996 deceased.

It is the third day in a row, India conducted nearly 5 lakh tests.

 Meanwhile, from the 1st of August, India entered phase 3 of the Unlock. 

As per the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) the non containment zones are allowed to enter the Unlock 3, which allows opening of gyms, yoga Institutions, removal of night curfews, e pass and inter and intra state movement. 

However, lockdown restrictions are still the same for containment zones.   In addition, many state governments extended lockdown in their states to curb the spread of the deadly virus. 

The West Bengal Government, the Bihar Government, the Tamil Nadu Government and the Maharashtra Government extended the lockdown till August end. 

With these updates, Maharashtra has the highest positivity rate for the Novel Coronavirus at 21%, followed by Karnataka (18%,) Bihar (16%,) West Bengal (15%,) Andhra Pradesh (14%,) and Odisha (11%.)

Erstwhile hotspots such as Delhi, Gujarat and Telangana are now at the 11th, 10th and 7th positions, respectively.

In Delhi, the Government started the next round of sero-prevalence survey.  The concerned authorities are gearing up for the five day exercise to comprehensively analyse the COVID-19 situation in Delhi from the 1st of August.

Satyendar Jain, the Health Minister of Delhi, decided to conduct such surveys as it helped to analyse the situation and take a call accordingly.

Delhi is also one of the regions in India showing better recovery rate.  The recovery rate in Delhi is approximately 85 %.

A senior government official said 15,000 samples would be collected over a span of five days and the survey would kickstart in four districts, including north and northwest Delhi. 

On the global front, the number of infected have surpassed 18 million with the maximum number of cases from the United States followed by Brazil and India. 

Total cases globally stand at 18,091,763 and the fatalities rose to 689,978

India is on the third in terms of the highest number of COVID-19 cases globally. 

As cases continue to surge, pharma firms across the world are trying to develop a vaccine to treat the deadly disease.
