Begum Bazaar of Hyderabad is soon going to impose a self lockdown amid the rise in the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.  

The decision to restrict business hours and impose a lockdown for traders was taken by the Hyderabad Kirana Merchants Association. On the 7th of April, the Kirana Merchants Association unanimously issued a resolution which restricts working hours from 9:00 A.M., to 5:00 P.M. In the wake of the coming Ramzan festival, the association also decided to strictly follow COVID-19 guidelines like wearing face masks, sanitization and social distancing.

During Ramzan the market, there would be a hectic business market and crowds in the Bazaar. Laxminarayana Rathi, the President of the Merchant’s Association, said, “We have taken the decision to restrict the business hours to minimize the risk of spread of the virus among the traders and also the public,”

The traders at Begum Bazaar have also planned to curtail the overcrowding in the market and advised the public to follow the COVID-19 protocols.

In the past few days, Telangana has reported more than 1,500 cases of COVID-19 on a regular basis. Due to the rise in cases, the active cases of Telangana which was below 3k, now increased to 8,000 and more.

The recovery rate also fell to 96 % from the previous 98%.
