India Cases Cross 7.6 Million With 54,044 New COVID-19 Cases

On the 21st of October, India crossed 7.6 million or 76 lakhs cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection.

In the past 24 hours, India reported 54,044 new COVID-19, with 717 death cases and 61,775 discharged/recovered cases.

With this, India has 7,651,107 positive cases, of which 7,40,090 are active cases, 67,95,103 recovered/discharged cases and 1,15,914 deceased.

In addition, the Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed 1,083,608 tests for COVID-19 infection, taking the cumulative total to 97,200,379.

On the 20th of October, the Health Ministry briefed about the COVID-19 situation in India.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the Union Health Minister said, India has the largest number of COVID-19 recovered cases in the world.

During the media briefing, Mr. Vardhan said 64% of the total cases in India, were reported from 6 states – Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.

In addition, speaking about the reinfection of the COVID-19, Balram Bhargava, the Director General of the ICMR said there is a possibility of reinfection if antibodies reduce in any person in five months. He said, “That is why it is important to wear masks and take precautions even if one was infected earlier.”

In India many re infection cases of the Novel Coronavirus were reported, following which the ICMR advised people to follow all the guidelines of COVID-19, maintaining social distancing and wearing face masks.
