The Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases are increasing rapidly in India. The daily average of new COVID-19 cases now crossed 3.20 lakhs.

On the 27th of April, the Union Health Department confirmed 3,23,144 new cases of COVID-19. This is the 7th consecutive day that the Nation reported more than 3 lakh cases on a daily basis. In addition, India also reported the highest single day death with 2,771 people dying due to COVID-19 cases and 2,51,827 recoveries in the past 24 hours.

The updated figures were available on the official website of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW.) According to the data, with the increasing number of cases, the recovery rate fell to 82.54 % and fatality rate stood at 1.12 % and active case load rate is at 16.34 %. In addition, with the aforementioned data, India has 17,636,307 positive cases, of which 28,82,204 are active cases, 14,556,209 are recovered cases and 1,97,894 death cases till date.

In addition, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR,) conducted a total of 16,58,700 sample tests for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the cumulative total to 28,09,79,877.

Meanwhile states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal and Punjab are having the highest single day spike in cases.

The second wave of COVID-19 in India is said to be more dangerous and deadlier, compared to the first one in 2020. The second wave is not only affecting people with the highest number of daily cases but also crushing the health infrastructure and burdening hospitals, medical staff, doctors and others with the lack of facilities.

States and union territories like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi and Kerala are reporting shortage of beds and oxygen for patients. In Maharashtra and Delhi, many COVID-19 patients are dying due to low oxygen supply. People are unable to get hospital beds for their COVID-19 inflected family members. In such circumstances, repeatedly increasing numbers of COVID- 19 infections and deaths leads to fear that the Central Government might impose another strict nationwide lockdown. However, the Central Government is not in favour of the lockdown and is trying to tackle the situation
