Till the 9th of January, the Central Government confirmed 90 cases of the new strain of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
Discovered in the United Kingdom (U.K.,) the new mutant strain of the deadly COVID-19 is said to be 70% more dangerous in terms of transmission.
According to the Union Health Ministry, “Total number of persons infected with the U.K., mutant strain of COVID-19 now stands at 90 in the country,” the Union Health Ministry said in a statement.
All the 90 U.K., returnees infected with the new strain are currently in a single room isolation in designated healthcare facilities. Respective state governments are responsible for the precautions and care taken for COVID-19 strain infected patients.
In addition, primary contacts of the infected people were also kept in isolation and are being observed closely.
In regard to this new strain, the Union Health Ministry said, “Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts and others. Genome sequencing on other specimens is also on.”
The new cases of new COVID-19 strain came a day after 256 passengers flew from the U.K., to Delhi.
After the flight services from the U.K., flights resumed, an Air India flight landed with 256 passengers.
Meanwhile, besides India, Denmark, Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Lebanon and Singapore also reported cases of new COVID-19 strain.
