India Records 67,708 New COVID-19 Cases, Total Crosses 7.3 Million Mark

On the 15th of October, India’s Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases crossed 7.3 millions or 73 lakhs cases.

In the past 24 hours, India reported as many as 67,708 new COVID-19 cases, 81,514 recoveries and 680 deaths.

With this, the total positive cases for COVID-19 reached a total of 73,07,097 of which 63,83,441 are recovered/discharged cases, 8,26,876 are active cases and 1,11,266 deceased.

The new figure of the COVID-19 cases was confirmed by the Union Health Ministry on the morning of the 15th of October.

The Union Ministry of Health said, “India’s doubling time has sharply increased to 70.4 days from 25.5 days in mid August. This indicates a substantial fall in the daily new cases and the consequent increase in time taken to double the total cases.”

The updated state wise data for the Novel Coronavirus infection is available at the official website of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW.)

In addition, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR,) on the 15th of October confirmed 1,136,183 samples tested for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. With this, India so far conducted a total of 91,226,305 samples for COVID-19 till the 14th of October.

Meanwhile, from the 15th of October, as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) schools, entertainment parks, cinema halls, multiplexes and swimming pools are all set to reopen from today, the 15th of October.

However, all the reopenings in India would need to follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) issued by respective ministries.

Social distancing, sanitization, thermal screening and face masks would be mandatory for the people as well as the staff at work.

The opening of schools, cinema halls, parks, swimming pools and others come under the Unlock 5.0.

However, in Maharashtra, cinema halls, schools, parks and swimming pools and religious places would remain closed.

The Maharashtra Government, on the 14th of October, issued a notice allowing metros, local trains, restaurants and bars to re open from the 15th of October.

The Maharashtra Government is following its own Unlocking system in the State, as Maharashtra has the highest number of COVID-19 infections.

In India, Maharashtra is the worst affected State, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

In addition, the recovery rate of India from COVID-19 cases stand at 88% with the mortality rate below 1.50 %.
