India Reports 62,212 Fresh COVID-19 Cases With 837 Deaths

India is showing a dip in the everyday spike of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases. 

In October, the Nation reported everyday cases below 70,000 from the previous 90,000 to 1,00,000.

According to the Union Health Ministry, in the past 24 hours India reported 62,212 new COVID-19 cases, taking the cumulative active cases to 7,95,087.

While 62,212 were new infections reported in the past 24 hours, deaths due to the Novel Coronavirus stood at 837.

The updated figure was confirmed by the Union Health Ministry on the morning of the 17th of October. The updated data is available on the official website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW.)

The Union Health Ministry in a statement said, “This significant achievement is the outcome of Centre led targeted strategies leading to high number of recoveries and steadily falling number of fatalities.”

This is the first time in the past 1.5 months, active cases for the Novel Coronavirus reported below 8 lakhs.

Despite the Novel Coronavirus cases decreasing day by day, the Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, asked Indians to exercise caution ahead of the festive and Winter season.

Mr. Vardhan said, India’s daily number of cases have dipped but concerns remain regarding fresh outbreaks with a second wave of the Novel Coronavirus in Kerala, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

These states are a major concern for the Central Government as the aforementioned states are showing a rise in the Novel Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, India has a total of 74,32,681 positive cases, 7,95,087 active cases, 65,24,596 cured/discharged and 1,12,998 deaths.

Speaking about candidate vaccines for the COVID-19 infection, Mr. Vardhan said three vaccine candidates are progressing well in India with one of them in the advanced stage III clinical trial and two others in stage II trial.

Mr. Vardhan said, “The next two-and-a-half months are going to be very crucial for us in our fight against Corona (Coronavirus) because of the winter season and the festival season. It becomes the responsibility of every citizen to not let our guard down and follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour to curb the spread of the infection.”

Meanwhile, globally the Coronavirus cases stands at 39,565,948. Of the total, 29,648,915 recovered and 1,108,617 have died.

While the United States of America (U.S.A.,) is the worst COVID-19 hit country with (8,288,278,) India is the second with 7,430,635 cases, followed by Brazil (5,201,570) and Russia (1,369,313.)
