India Reports Highest Single Day Spike Of 77,266 COVID-19 Cases, Total Crosses 3.38 Millions

On the 28th of August, India registered the highest single day spike of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection.

In the last 24 hours, as many as 77,266 people tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus.  In addition, 1,057 people died due to the COVID-19 infection.

The number of COVID-19 cases were updated by the Union Health Ministry on the morning of the 28th of August. 

The data with the new updates are available on the official website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) https://www.mohfw.gov.in/

According to the MoHFW, India has 33,87,500 positive cases, of which 7,25,991 are active cases, 25,83,948  are recovered/discharged cases and 61,529 deceased. 

Despite the everyday spike in the Novel Coronavirus cases, the recovery rate in India is nearly 76.27%  which is 0.73 % more since 24 hours.

Meanwhile, trials of the U.S. candidate vaccine started in India and entered the second phase.  In addition, a COVID-19 candidate vaccine, by Indian pharma companies is also on the third stage of trials. 

On the other hand, the Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR) also confirmed 9,01,338 tests conducted in the past 24 hours, taking the total test till date to 3,94,77,848.

With this India has the third highest number of Coronavirus cases in the world. 

First two nations are the United States of America (6,048,317) and Brazil (3,764,493.) 

The top 5 worst COVID-19 hit states of India are: Maharashtra (733,568,) Tamil Nadu (403,242,) Andhra Pradesh (3,82,469,) Karnataka (309,792,) and Uttar Pradesh (2,08,419.) 

Telangana also witnessed a hike in single day cases with 2,932 COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths in the last 24 hours. 

On the other hand, Delhi which was at a recovery rate of nearly 90% again witnessed resurgence in the number of the Novel Coronavirus cases.

On the 27th of August, Delhi recorded 1,840 new cases, the highest after 48 days.

However, the Union Health Ministry assured the COVID-19 situation to be under control.  The Indian Health Ministry took to Twitter and said, “In the past five months, more than 3/4 of cases have recovered and less than 1/4 are active now. Effective implementation of the Centre”s strategic and graded TEST-TRACK-TREAT approach has led to higher recoveries and lower fatality.”

In India the virus infected nearly 3.38 million people, globally the virus infected 24 million people and claimed 8.31 lakh lives till date.
