On the 18th of October, India recorded 13,596 fresh cases of the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.) Compared to the previous day, the number of cases are falling, taking the total active cases below 2,00,000. As per the official COVID-19 data, this is the lowest single day spike in the last 230 days.
Besides 13,596 new cases, the nation recorded 166 fatalities and 19,582 recoveries. The new cases were confirmed by the Union Health Ministry on Monday Morning. According to the Union Ministry data, the total cases of the Wuhan virus reached 3,40,81,315, of the total 1,89,694 are active cases, 3,34,39,331 are recovered/discharged cases and 4,52,290 are deceased cases till date.
The cases were confirmed after conducting a total of 9,89,493 sample tests, taking the number of COVID-19 tests to 59.19 crores in India.
The updated figures of the Wuhan virus are available on the official website of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW.)
In addition, the national recovery rate of the Wuhan virus improved to 98.12 %, fatality rate is at 1.33% and active cases of COVID-19 are at 0.56%.
The major cases of the Wuhan virus are being reported from Southern India, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. According to the COVID-19 data, Kerala has the highest active cases with 87,657 , followed by Maharashtra 28,631, Tamil Nadu (14,815,) Karnataka (9,450) and Andhra Pradesh (6,034.)
Besides the southern region, Maharashtra also has the maximum number of active cases (28,631.) However, in the past 24 hours, for the first time Maharashtra reported zero deaths due to COVID-19.
On the other hand, over 97.79 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far including 1 crore doses administered in the past 24 hours. The vaccines were given under the nationwide vaccination drive, which is soon to cross the 100 crores mark of administering COVID-19 vaccine. With the same speed, the Government of India is aiming to administer COVID-19 vaccine to 108 crore people by the end of December.
Currently India has 10,53,11,155 doses of COVID-19 vaccines left, which would be given to the residents of India.
