India To Supply COVID-19 Vaccines To Six Countries From Today

After kick starting the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 vaccination drive, the Indian Government is all set to supply COVID-19 vaccines to other countries.

To fight the pandemic illness of the Novel Coronavirus infection, many countries are struggling to develop a vaccine to cure people.

However, India successfully developed the vaccine and started the nationwide vaccination drive to vaccinate the population of 133 crore people in phases. In the first phase, nearly 30 crore people would receive the two Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) approved vaccines.

The DCGI approved the Hyderabad bases Bharat Biotech International Limited’s COVAXIN and the Serum Institute of India’s Covishield for the Emergency Use Authorisation (EAU.)

After conducting the drive successfully for three days, the GoI on the 19th of January announced to supply COVID-19 vaccines under grant assistance to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Seychelles.

The supply would begin from today, the 20th of January.

The announcement was made by the Union Ministry of External Affairs.

It said India is awaiting confirmation of necessary regulatory clearances from Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Mauritius for supply of the vaccines.

The MEA in its statement said India has received several requests for the supply of Indian manufactured vaccines from neighbouring and key partner countries.

The statement read, “In response to these requests, and in keeping with India’s stated commitment to use India’s vaccine production and delivery capacity to help all of humanity fight the COVID pandemic, supplies under grant assistance to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Seychelles will begin from January 20.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter and tweeted something regarding the same. Mr. Modi said, “India is deeply honoured to be a “long-trusted” partner in meeting the healthcare needs of the global community and that supplies of the vaccines to several countries will commence on Wednesday, and more will follow in the days ahead.”

The supply would be in coming weeks and months in a phased manner considering the domestic requirements.

Stay tuned for further updates.
