The Karnataka Government on the 15th of May, announced to establish a COVAXIN manufacturing plant in Kolar district.
Dr. C.N. Ashwathnarayan, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and COVID-19 Task. Force, addressed the media and confirmed the same. He said, “Covaxin manufacturing plant of Bharat Biotech will be established at the earliest in Malur industrial area of Kolar district.”
The new industry would be a part of the Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Private Limited, the manufacturer of COVAXIN.
The State Government released an official press release regarding the same. The release read, “Maluru which is close to the State Capital has good transport facilities including train services. The Government has approved the project and the company is processing administrative requisites. Civil construction works have already been started and this will be completed soon to facilitate the functioning of the manufacturing operations as early as possible.”
The B.S. Yeddyurappa led State Government also said, any company engaged in manufacturing Covisheild of the Serum Institute of India (SII) would be welcome to establish a plant in Karnataka.
The decision for the establishment of the new company to manufacture COVAXIN was taken to ensure speedy manufacturing of the vaccine.
As of now, two India made vaccines, one is Covisheild and second is Bharat Biotech International Private Limited’s COVAXIN are being administered to people. The two vaccines are manufactured to fight against the Wuhan virus also known as COVID-19.
