The B.S. Yediyurappa led Karnataka Government announced an extension to the complete lockdown until the 14th of June. 

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government led Karnataka Government took the decision of a complete lockdown on the 27th of April till the 10th of May, which was extended till the 24th of May, then till the 7th of June and now till the 14th of June.

The decision was taken due to the increasing number of the Wuhan virus, also known as Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the State. During the lockdown, only essential services would be allowed to function, between 6:00 A.M., to 10:00 A.M. Shopping malls, gyms, schools, colleges, swimming pools, parks and other public places would remain shut. .However, shops selling agricultural products, construction services and manufacturing material would be functional amid the lockdown measures. Speaking about the transportation services, the State Government confirmed public transport to remain shut. However, the vaccination drive, medical services and chemist shops are functioning as it is.

On the 2nd of June, the Karnataka COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee suggested to ease lockdown norms if the positive caseload comes below 5 % and a single day spike below 5,000. In addition, rural areas of the State are witnessing a massive hike in the COVID-19 cases.

In addition, the Karnataka Chief Minister said a second financial package for businesses and sectors hit hardest by the lockdown is in the works.

Karnataka announced the first relief package of over Rs. 1,250 crores for those whose livelihood has been affected by the lockdown.

Meanwhile, currently Karnataka has more than 2.93 lakh active cases, compared to the first imposed lockdown, the number of active cases increased by approximately 30,000. In addition, the total positive cases, which was close to 13 lakh in April end, are now at 26.35 lakhs.
