Suresh Raina, one of the top players of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Chennai Super Kings (CSK,) was released on bail on the 22nd of December.

The bail of Mr. Raina came hours after his arrest in a raid for violating the norms of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

The Mumbai Police around 3:00 A.M., of the 22nd of December, raided a nightclub named  

Dragonfly Experience and arrested 34 people including Suresh Raina. 

The accused were booked for violating COVID-19 norms. 

Suresh Raina’s management team clarified and said, “Suresh was in Mumbai for a shoot which extended to late hours and was invited by a friend for a quick dinner post the same prior to him taking his flight back to Delhi.  He was not aware of the local timings and protocols.”

The statement further read, “Once pointed out, he (Raina) immediately complied with the procedures laid out by the authorities and regrets the unfortunate and unintentional incident.  He (Raina) always holds rules and laws laid down by governing bodies with the highest regard and will continue to do so in the future as well.”

After the issued statements and clarifications, Suresh Raina was released on bail. 

He was booked under Section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), Section 269 (whoever unlawfully or negligently does any act which is, and which he knows or has reason to believe to be, likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life) and Section 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)

The raid on the nightclub happened as it was open beyond the permitted time violating the issued guidelines of COVID-19. 

Meanwhile, Twitter users extended support to Suresh Raina and condemned his arrest.
