Amid the increasing number of Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases, the Telangana Government has no plans of imposing a lockdown in Telangana. 

On the 29th of April, the Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar said, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government has no plan to impose a lockdown as of now. The statement was made during a press meet. This is not the first time, Telangana ministers denied about sanctioning a lockdown in the State.

Mr. Somesh Kumar dismissed the rumour doing the rounds on social media and other platforms, that there would be lockdown in Telangana. He said, these social media posts are creating a panic amongst people and urging the public not to believe it.

In addition, Somesh Kumar said as of now, COVID-19 situation is under control in the State. There are no shortage of oxygen beds, general beds and medical requirements for COVID-19 patients.

He urged people to stay at home, wear masks and follow other COVID-19 protocols. He also asked people not to panic.

Earlier, the State Home Minister of Telangana, Mohammed Mahmood Ali, said the Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is not in favour of a lockdown in the State. He said, “Based on the situation after the night curfew and as per the recommendations of the Health Department, the Chief Minister will take a decision after April 30.”

Besides the Telangana Home Minister and the TelanganaTelangana Chief Secretary, the Public Health Director of Telangana Dr. Srinivasa Rao also warned people and urged them to follow COVID-19 protocols.

Dr. Srinivas also denied that the Health Department sent a proposal for imposing a lockdown in Telangana. He said, “There is no truth in the propaganda going on in the electronic and social media that the medical health department has sent proposals to the government to impose a lockdown in the state. The Department of Medical Health has not made any such proposal.”

Mr. Srinivas Rao said also urged people to follow COVID-19 guidelines and said the next four weeks are very crucial in the battle against the second wave of COVID-19 in the State.second wave of COVID-19 in the State. According to the medical experts, mid May and June are likely to be the peak of the second wave of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 cases in the State increased to 4.27 lakh cases including 7,994 fresh COVID-19 cases.

In addition, the death toll rose to 2,208 with 58 more fatalities. To curb the spread of the virus, Telangana Government already imposed a night curfew. The 10 day night curfew started from the 20th of April and would continue till the 1st of May.

If the situation doesn’t improve, the State Government may extend the imposed curfew. However, an official announcement is yet to be made.
