COVAXIN is said to be effective against a new strain of the Novel Coronavirus, found in India and the United Kingdom.
COVAXIN, one of the India made vaccines against the Wuhan virus is manufactured by The Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Private Limited. The company on the 16th of May cited a study published in an Oxford reviewed medical journal and said COVAXIN has been found to be effective for COVID-19 strains found in India and the U.K.
The study noted that COVAXIN produced the neutralising titres (antibodies) against all key emerging variants tested, including B.1.617 and B.1.1.7, first identified in India and the U.K., respectively. The study was conducted in collaboration with the National Institute of Virology and Indian Council of Medical Research.
Suchitra Ella, the Co Managing Director (MD) of Bharat Biotech said, “COVAXIN gets international recognition yet again, by scientific research data published demonstrating protection against the new variants. Yet another feather in its cap.”
Ms. Suchitra Ella took to Twitter and posted the same and tagged the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Twitter handle, the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and the Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.
This is a relief to many citizens who are receiving COVAXIN, one of the India made vaccines against the Wuhan virus.
The other India made vaccine against the COVID-19 vaccination is the Serum Institute of India manufactured Covisheild. Besides the two India made vaccines (COVAXIN and Covisheild) Russia made vaccination against the Wuhan virus Sputnik V, is also available in India. With this, India has three COVID-19 vaccinations for people.
