Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet with the chief ministers of all states and union territories (UTs) ahead of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 vaccine roll out.
As per the sources, the Union Health Ministry announced to roll out COVID-19 vaccine in the coming week, the 13th of January.
In regard to this, the Government of India conducted a nationwide vaccine dry run on the 2nd and the 8th of January.
The meeting between the Prime Minister and CMs of all states and UTs would be related to the distribution of COVID-19 vaccine and other major things related to the same.
In India, the Drug Controller General India (DCGI) approved the emergency use of COVID-19 vaccine made by Serum Institute of India (SII) and the Hyderabad based pharma company, Bharat Biotech International Private Limited.
The two vaccines of the Novel Coronavirus named Covishield (SII) and COVAXIN (Bharat Biotech) would be given to front line workers and used for emergency purposes soon.
SII claimed to have stock of 50 million doses and COVAXIN has 20-30 million doses manufactured.
As per trials, Covishield is over 70 % effective and COVAXIN is currently in the Phase 3 trials but is safe and provides a robust immune response.
The meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the CMs is scheduled on the 11th of January at 4:00 P.M.
