SII Manufactured COVID-19 Vaccine Send To 13 Locations, First Consignment To Delhi

In the early hours of the 12th of January, a special flight left for Delhi and 12 other places with the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 vaccine. 

On the 11th of January, the Central Government gave an order of 11 million doses of Covishield, made by the Serum Institute of India (SII.) 

A SpiceJet flight carried COVID-19 vaccine’s first consignment to Delhi at 8:00 A.M.

The Pune Airport official Twitter handle posted a tweet which read, “Ready get set go!  Stand by India!  The vaccine to kill the disease is being loaded into the aircraft for distribution all over the country now.” 

In addition to the first consignment, 7 other SpiceJet flights from Pune would carry 56.5 lakh SII manufactured COVID-19 vaccine to 12 cities.   The other flights took off to 12 other cities by 10:00 A.M.

The locations include Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Karnal, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guwahati, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar and Mumbai. 

The consignment for Mumbai will leave by road.  Trucks belonging to Kool-ex Cold Chain Ltd., are being used to ferry the vaccine stocks from the Serum Institute

Nearly 5 trucks with 32 kgs of vaccines drove to the Pune Airport at 5:00 A.M.  A ‘puja’ was performed before the vehicles left the facility to the Pune Airport. 

The flights include two cargo flights, of which one would cover Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Bhubaneswar and the second cargo flight would go to Kolkata and Guwahati. 

The preparations are being made for the upcoming vaccine drive for the Novel Coronavirus. 

The drive is scheduled to be held on the 16th of January and would vaccinate nearly 30 crore citizens of India.  India is going to conduct the biggest drive for vaccination in the world. 

So far, nearly 2.5 crore people were vaccinated with potential COVID-19 vaccines in 50 countries.  However, India alone is going to vaccinate 30 crore people in the first phase. 

These 30 crore citizens include frontline workers, police personnel, medical staff, senior citizens and people with comorbidities. 

All states and union territories (UTs) are preparing for the biggest drive.  In regard to this Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a review meeting with all the chief ministers and state officials.
