SII’s COVID-19 Vaccine Shipment of 3.72 Lakh Doses Reaches Hyderabad Airport

After Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chennai and Mumbai, Hyderabad also got its first shipment of the Novel Coronavirus vaccine.

On the morning of the 12th of January, the Serum Institute of India (SII) sent the Coronavirus vaccine named Covidshield to 13 cities including Hyderabad. All the 56.5 lakh doses of vaccine weighing 32 kgs took off on 9 SpiceJet flights today morning. While the first flight took off at 8:00 A.M., to Delhi, other flights took off by 10:00 A.M.

Around 11:30 A.M., of the 12th of January, the first shipment of 3.72 lakhs ‘Covidshield’ vaccine reached Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, Telangana.

After the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine the State Government moved the vaccine to the GMR cargo area.

With this, the Telangana Medical Health Department is all set for the distribution of the Coronavirus vaccine, scheduled on the 16th of January.

According to the sources the Government has made necessary cold storage facilities at the Medical Health head office at Koti. Security arrangements have also been made by the police at the cold chain facility.

The details of the selected beneficiaries in the first installment of vaccination have been registered in the COWIN portal and a dry run has already completed it.

Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary of Telangana Somesh Kumar held a teleconference with all the District Collectors today, the 12th of January.

As per sources, during the review meeting, Mr. Kumar discussed preparations for the launch of COVID-19 vaccination programme.

On the 16th of January, citizens including frontline workers, senior citizens and people with comorbidities in Telangana would get Covidshield’s first dose.

The biggest drive for the Novel Coronavirus vaccine would vaccinate as many as 80 lakh citizens of Telangana.
